Miss Nash's 2nd Grade Class

Welcome to our Second Grade Class Blog!

Fun Math Jumping Contest!

October21

Today in math we started our unit on measurement and shapes. The first lesson is all about teaching the kids to measure length with a “non-standard unit of measurement”. For this we used tens rods. The kids read a story about animals having a jumping contest and measuring the distance with sticks. So, we took the story and made it happen in our classroom! Take a look at some picutres from our jumping contest! They did such a great job with measuring their distances!

Class of Distinction!

October17

Several times throughout the year classes have the opportunity to get recognized as the Class of Distinction in the school. The winners are based on the class that shows the best behavior in our specialist classes (P.E., computer lab, music and library).

Our class is proud to announce that we have earned the title of Class of Distinction along with Ms. Richardson’s 4th grade class for this beginning of the year! All the kiddos should be so proud of themselves for showing such great character in their specialist classes! I’m so very proud OF them!

We earned the right to hang up the Class of Distinction sign in our classroom, a picture in the SES newsletter, a chance to take a “victory lap” at the next Recognition Assembly AND a popcorn party that we enjoyed last Friday!

Here are some pictures that were taken for the newsletter:

Our community mural!!

October10

The kiddos have been working hard these last few weeks to complete our community mural and now it’s finally done! We are using our mural to showcase all that we have learned about urban, suburban, and rural communities. Take a look at what they accomplished! (You can click on the image to make it bigger.)

Please note that in addition to the snack guidelines that have already been posted, in our classroom there will be a strict NO NUTS policy because of several severe allergies. Any snacks or treats that have nuts will not be allowed and I will ask you child to please take that particular food item home to enjoy. Interested in Volunteering??

August26

VolunteerI love having parents and other family friends volunteer! We’ll start with volunteers on September 12th. If you’re interested in helping out, please send me an email with the time you’d like to sign up.

Before volunteering at SES (in the office, classroom, or on a field trip) you must complete our Volunteer Disclosure Form. Complete and return it to the front office along with a copy of your driver’s license. Potential volunteers are then background checked through the Washington State Patrol.

Thanks! See you Monday, Aug. 29 for Meet Your Teacher at 1:30!
